Suffolk County Chair Rich Schaffer congratulating Pat
Biancaniello
(Election Night Nov 8, 2005) |
| |
After
years of community activism and political advocacy, Pat
Biancaniello has decided that it is time to put her personal and
professional experience to work for the citizens of the town of
Smithtown. As
a long time member and two-term President of the League of Women
Voters of Smithtown, Pat has been a dedicated advocate of good
government and effective policy making. “Much of my recent volunteer work has been focused on
promoting both a responsible government and a responsible
electorate. I believe that we must all take responsibility for the
decisions that are made by our elected officials. The best way to
do that is to educate ourselves and to vote wisely,” reflects
Pat. “I am running
for office because I believe I can help restore the electorate’s
faith in the democratic process by representing our district
honestly, effectively and proactively.
I will put my heart and soul into representing the people
of the town of Smithtown.”
Pat’s
first introduction to political activism came during the debate
over construction of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant.
At the time she lived in Port Jefferson Station and was
concerned about the adequacy of the construction and the
evacuation plans. Pat worked on petition campaigns and
protested in front of the County Executive’s and LILCO offices.
“This issue demonstrated the need for citizens to be
informed and active in local politics and government.
Since then I made it a priority to write letters and phone public
officials when I became concerned about issues affecting my
community. My parents taught me that to accomplish anything
you have to be willing to work for it. This is certainly true when it comes to making sure our
government officials represent us effectively.”
Pat brought her professional experience
from prior jobs to Classic Transportation in 1986.
Pat left Classic Transportation, in 2001, as General
Manager of the Coach Division. Since leaving she has devoted
her time to being active in the Smithtown community.
Pat has put her business plans on hold to run for Town
Board where, as she
says, “I hope to be a champion for our community’s
concerns.”
After earning her Associates Degree from
Suffolk Community College, Pat went on to earn her Bachelor of
Arts in History at Stony Brook University.
Pat grew up on Scholar Lane in Commack and graduated
Commack High School in 1971. Commack High school honored Pat in
2003 by awarding her a Commack High School Alumnus of Distinction.
Pat
and her husband, Tom, a Pediatric Cardiologist, have lived in
Smithtown since 1989. Their
five children have all attended Smithtown Central School District
schools. Sons
Patrick and Christopher, along with Rocks, their dog, live at
home, while Shannon, Dawn and Frank now live on their own.
